Back in 2003 I was teaching at City High School in Kampala. Life felt stable โ€” until it suddenly wasnโ€™t. My husband got transferred far away, and the move would have pulled me from my young children and our home in Mutungo. I prayed hard about it. Leaving wasnโ€™t an option.

So instead of going, I stayed. I had almost nothing no big savings, no fancy plan but I had faith and a small plot of land, just 80 feet by 70 feet. With a lot of prayer and a little courage, I opened a tiny neighborhood nursery right there at home. On the very first day, 16 little children walked through the gate. That was Elyon Kindergarten, born in 2003.

Those early days were simple and hard. We had one small room, a few benches, some chalk and slates, and a lot of love. I taught the children myself at first โ€” songs, stories, letters, numbers, Bible verses, and how to be kind. Parents started bringing more children because they saw their little ones coming home happy, singing, praying, and learning. Word spread quietly, the way good things do.

Year by year God made a way. More children came than we had space for. We built another classroom. Then another. Nursery grew into Primary. We added boarding for families who needed it. Teachers joined who loved children as much as I did. In time we opened our second home in Nsangi the same heart, the same prayers, the same care, just a different gate to walk through.

Today both Mutungo and Nsangi together look after around 1,200 children. We still remember those first 16. We still start every day with prayer. We still believe school is about more than books itโ€™s about hearts, character, faith, and knowing you are loved by God and by people.

None of this happened because we were clever or rich. It happened because God was faithful. When we had no money for desks, parents helped. When rain made the ground muddy, teachers carried children on their backs. When things felt impossible, we prayed and God opened doors.

Thatโ€™s why the heart of Elyon has never changed:

  • Every child is precious made by God on purpose
  • Education must touch the whole child mind, heart, body and spirit
  • Faith is not an extra itโ€™s the foundation of everything
  • Small classes matter so no child ever feels invisible
  • Parents are partners we raise children together
  • Excellence matters in lessons, in character, in preparing for life

From 16 children on a small plot in Mutungo to hundreds of young lives across two campuses itโ€™s all Godโ€™s doing. Weโ€™re still growing, still learning, still trusting Him every day.

If youโ€™re reading this and wondering if Elyon could be the right place for your child come see us. Walk around, hear the children sing, sit in a class, talk to a teacher. Weโ€™d be honored to show you what God has built.

Thank you for letting us share our story. We pray God continues to guide your family too.
